The Indianapolis Colts have used the transition tag on seven-year veteran quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones, a former first-round pick, spent the 2025 season with the Indianapolis Colts but entered the league with the New York Giants.

Daniel Jones Receives Transition Tag From Colts

The 2025 season was a bittersweet one for Daniel Jones, as the quarterback looked to be one of the league’s better surprises early in the year. Signed to a one-year deal and brought in to compete with Anthony Richardson, the former first-round pick won the job and played like one of the league’s better quarterbacks. Starting 13 games, Jones finished the season with an 8-5 record while completing 68% of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Unfortunately, he tore his Achilles tendon late in the year, and the team didn’t win a single game without him.

Daniel Jones originally entered the league as the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Brought in to learn the ropes behind Eli Manning, the Duke product quickly earned the starting job. Showing promise as a rookie, Jones finished his inaugural campaign completing 61.9% of his attempts for 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Jones followed this up with two underwhelming seasons and the Giants declined his fifth-year option. The quarterback responded with a strong season, guiding New York to the playoffs while completing 67.2% of his passes for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

This earned him a four-year, $160 million contract extension, but Daniel Jones could not recapture his success with the organization. Jones went 3-13 over the next two seasons while throwing more interceptions than touchdowns. New York released him midway through the 2024 season, and he spent the last few weeks of the year on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad.
