Per Tony Pauline, the Colts are said to be looking for a first-round pick to trade RB Jonathan Taylor.
Pauline feels Taylor’s value is closer to what Christian McCaffrey was traded for, which was a second, third, fourth and fifth-round pick back in 2022.
Colts HC Shane Steichen said Taylor has not asked to be traded, while owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon made it clear she doesn’t want to move the star running back. However, a first-round pick return might entice the Colts to do so after moving Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, though they are on expiring deals.
The Packers, Seahawks and Broncos were reportedly among the teams who would look into a Taylor trade should the Colts listen.
Taylor, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Colts back in 2020 out of Wisconsin. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $7,829,150 rookie contract with the Colts that included a $3,253,928 signing bonus when Indianapolis signed Taylor to a three-year, $42 million contract extension that included $26.5 million guaranteed.
He was set to make a base salary of $11.98 million in 2026, the final year of that deal, when he signed a two-year, $44 million extension in camp this year.
In 2026, Taylor has appeared in seven games for the Colts and rushed 140 times for 587 yards (4.2 YPC) and eight touchdowns. He’s also caught 17 passes for 178 yards.
We’ll have more on Taylor and the Colts as the news becomes available.
