For the second time in his NFL career, Daniel Jones has signed a massive contract in free agency.
Jones was enjoying a great 2025 season with the Indianapolis Colts before suffering a torn Achilles in December against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished the year with 3,101 passing yards, 164 rushing yards and 24 total touchdowns. Since the Colts were unable to get a long-term deal done last week, they used the transition tag on him.
While there were plenty of people suggesting the Colts should move on from Jones, it's very evident the coaching staff and front office are committed to him.
On Wednesday morning, the Colts finalized a two-year, $88 million contract with Jones. This deal can be worth up to $100 million due to incentives. Although he's coming off a season-ending injury, he'll get over $60 million guaranteed.
Ian Rapoport pointed out that Jones' contract with the Colts is now the biggest two-year deal in NFL history.
Back in 2023, the New York Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension. That contract didn't work out the way the team hoped it would, but he did walk away with $82 million in guaranteed money.
The Colts have been quite busy this week, signing wide receiver Alec Pierce to a four-year, $116 million deal. They also traded Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a swap of late round draft picks.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Colts wanted to sign former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson to a lucrative deal.
Unfortunately for the Colts, their pursuit of Hendrickson was ruined once the Baltimore Ravens backed out of their trade for Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby.
Now that Jones is under contract, the Colts can shift their focus over to the defensive side of the football.
