Colts Sign RB to Active Roster While Placing Another on IR
USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts have been quite busy on the Tuesday following Week 1.

The team placed running back Evan Hull on injured reserve and signed running back Jake Funk to the active roster as a corresponding move. The Colts also signed guard Ike Boettger to the practice squad as they look to continue to add depth to a thin unit.

Hull made his NFL debut in Week 1 with the Colts. He had one carry and one reception before suffering an injury that forced the team to turn back to Deon Jackson for the rest of the game. With Jonathan Taylor out until Week 5, the Colts were counting on the rookie fifth-round draft pick to be a part of a “running back by committee” approach, as head coach Shane Steichen called it. Now, Hull will be out for the for seeable future after being placed on injured reserved.

Funk was also signed to the Colts' 53-man roster. Funk has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams predominantly as a special teamer and now finds himself in a Colts' backfield that needs bodies in the worst way. The Colts expect to have Zach Moss back this week, where he will join Jackson and Funk as the trio of running backs.

Boettger brings a ton of experience to the Colts' practice squad. The Colts hosted Boettger on a visit a week ago and walked away impressed.

Boettger has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. In the last five seasons, he appeared in over 30 games and made 17 starts. Boettger will look to make his trip to the practice squad a short one as he intends to compete for a roster spot and fight to be a part of the rotation.
