Colts to Induct Jim Irsay into Ring of Honor
Sam Riche-USA TODAY NETWORK

The 20th member of the Indianapolis Colts Ring of Honor will be the team's late owner, Jim Irsay.

The announcement was made on what would have been his 66th birthday, Friday, June 13.

"There was no bigger advocate for the Colts, the NFL, the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana than our dad, Jim Irsay," said Colts Owner & CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon said in a statement on the team's website. "It's only fitting that he now joins the other amazing Colts legends in our Ring of Honor who contributed so much to our franchise and our community over the past four decades."

Irsay will be honored by the team during the team's September 7th season opener at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Miami Dolphins. He will be the second Colts owner to receive the honor after his father, Robert Irsay, who was the first-ever inductee back in 1996. Jim Irsay inherited the team after his father passed away in 1997.

Irsay presided over one of the most successful eras for the Colts. During his time as Owner and CEO, his teams won a Super Bowl, two AFC Championships, and 10 division titles. From 2000 to 2009, the Colts won a then-NFL record 115 regular season games. Those teams featured six current Pro Football Hall of Famers.

The late owner will join other Colt greats in the Ring of Honor, including quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Jim Harbaugh; running backs Edgerrin James, Marshall Faulk, and Eric Dickerson; wide receivers Marvin Harrison Sr. and Reggie Wayne; head coach Tony Dungy, and many others.
