Colts Working On Signing Intriguing Free Agent Wide Receiver

The No. 1 goal for the Indianapolis Colts from here on out is to make life as easy as possible for their new franchise quarterback, Anthony Richardson. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida has immense talent and a sky-high ceiling, but it will take some time to reach it.

The Colts need to show some patience with Richardson, who is considered by many to be a raw prospect. His physical tools and athleticism are elite, but it will take a little while for him to make those talents translate on the field.

New head coach Shane Steichen certainly looks the part of the man for the job. He has had success coaching Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts as offensive coordinators for the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles. Both of those players are talented in their own right, but neither possesses the size/skill/athleticism combination that Richarson has.

In fact, there isn’t anyone that does as the former Gator is in a class of his own in that regard. Alas, there is only so much that coaching will help. If the Colts really want Richardson to take off in his development, adding talent around him will be the biggest accelerant.

Indianapolis currently has Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce atop their depth chart, followed by 2023 third-round pick Josh Downs. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to add another pass catcher to the mix and the Colts have reportedly set their sights on one.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Colts have worked out free agent wide receiver Breshad Perriman. The workout went well enough that Schefter added the two sides are in discussions about him signing a deal with the team.
