Colts Star Keenan Allen Arrested Hours After Taking Field in Preseason Game

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday morning on preliminary drunken driving charges, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, creating an unexpected situation for the organization shortly after the veteran joined the team.

Allen, 34, faces preliminary misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, according to police.

The arrest occurred at approximately 1 a.m. ET in downtown Indianapolis.

Police said officers initially approached Allen’s vehicle because it was parked in a no-parking zone. According to authorities, Allen showed “signs of intoxication,” prompting officers to conduct a further investigation before taking him into custody.

As of Sunday morning, Allen was being held at the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center, according to jail records.

The Colts acknowledged the situation in a statement Sunday but declined to provide additional details while the organization gathers information.

“We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night,” the Colts said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

The incident comes only weeks after Allen joined Indianapolis on a one-year contract, bringing one of the NFL’s most accomplished veteran receivers into the Colts’ offense.

Allen made a brief appearance in Indianapolis’ preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday, recording one reception for 24 yards. Hours later, he was arrested downtown.

It remains unclear whether the incident will affect Allen’s status with the Colts or potentially lead to discipline from the NFL. The league can review incidents involving players under its personal conduct policy independent of the legal process.

For Indianapolis, the situation creates uncertainty surrounding a player expected to provide experience and reliability to its receiving corps.

Allen has established himself as one of the NFL’s most productive route runners during a career that has spanned 14 seasons. The six-time Pro Bowl selection spent his first 11 seasons with the Chargers after being selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft.
