Maxx Crosby wants superstar defender to sign with Raiders

Maxx Crosby got his wish when the Las Vegas Raiders decided to stick with Antonio Pierce as the head coach.

Now, he wants the team to make some more additions to the roster.

This week, Crosby campaigned for the Raiders to try to add Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones, who is slated to hit free agency this offseason.

“I mean, I would take Chris Jones in a heartbeat,” Crosby told Austin Boyd of Heavy.com. “I know Chris really well. So I mean, there are a lot of guys in free agency, a lot of great defensive tackles. It would be it would be awesome. I mean, Chris Jones is one of the best in the game, if not the best at what he does. I know he’s a Chief, but at the end of the day, if you want to come to the Raiders, come on down. I’m all for it.”

A duo of Crosby and Jones along Las Vegas’ defensive front would be frightening, to say the least.

In 16 games this season, Jones registered 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks and four passes defended en route to his fifth straight Pro Bowl nod as well as his second consecutive first-team All-Pro selection.

The 29-year-old missed Week 1 of the campaign due to a contract dispute with the Chiefs, but the two sides ultimately settled on a one-year deal.

However, Jones is in line for a big payday this spring, and Kansas City has shown in the past that it is not afraid to let star players go. Two years ago, for example, the Chiefs traded superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill due to financial constraints.

The Raiders are entering the offseason with significant cap space, so they should have more than enough money available to sign Jones if they so please.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He has racked up 15.5 sacks on two separate occasions, doing so in 2018 and 2022.

We’ll see if Crosby can convince Las Vegas’ front office to spend big on Chris Jones this March. Clearly, Raiders brass values his opinion.
