Commanders 2025 alternate jerseys lean into team's lofty expectations

The Washington Commanders are dressing for the part.

On Wednesday, the franchise revealed throwback jerseys for the 2025 season which lean into the team's lofty expectations while honoring the most successful era in team history.

The Commanders' "Super Bowl era" throwback uniforms recall the road outfits the team wore when it won three Super Bowls over a 10-season span beginning in 1982.

Washington will wear the jerseys during three exclusive-window games this upcoming season, including Week 9 (vs. Seattle Seahawks), Week 13 (vs. Denver Broncos, who they defeated in Super Bowl XXII) and Week 17 (vs. Dallas Cowboys).

The Commanders dropped their former racial slur moniker in 2020 and officially adopted their current team name in 2022 with a full rebrand revealed in February of that year.

Last season, the Commanders finished 12-5, their best regular-season record since 1991, when they won their most recent Lombardi Trophy.

The 2025 throwbacks unis are ostensibly in recognition of the team's past triumphs, but last year showed the organization is entering another Super Bowl era.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, was named Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year and led the Commanders to their first NFC title game appearance since 1991.

Entering his second season, Daniels has as bright a future as any quarterback in the league, giving the Commanders a vast championship window.

This offseason, Washington acquired five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans for four draft picks, including a 2025 third and seventh and 2026 second- and fourth-round picks.

The Commanders also added 2021 first-team All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel via trade and signed defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, the No. 14 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, to a three-year, $45 million contract. He's failed to live up to his draft placement thus far but is coming off his most productive season, ending 2024 with 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 697 defensive snaps.

Per ESPN BET, the Commanders (+850) are fourth in preseason odds to win the NFC and tied for sixth (+2000) to win Super Bowl LX.

"These uniforms honor the most successful era of our franchise -- one that reflects a culture of excellence and encompasses many historical moments and special memories amongst our fanbase," team president Mark Clouse said in a statement. (h/t NFL.com)

The throwback uniforms revealed Wednesday speak to the franchise's proud legacy, and the 2025 Commanders are more than capable of adding to it.
