The Washington Commanders entered their Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders with a 1–1 record after dropping a Sept. 11 game against the Green Bay Packers. To make matters worse, the team’s star quarterback, Jayden Daniels, was ruled out after suffering a knee sprain, with backup Marcus Mariota drawing the start. Plus, one of the team’s running backs, Austin Ekeler, is feared to have suffered a season-ending injury.
With the Commanders shorthanded, star receiver Terry McLaurin expected to have a larger role heading into the game. After signing a three-year extension worth up to $96 million in the offseason, the 30-year-old veteran will be set to lead Washington’s wide receiver group for the foreseeable future. In 2024, McLaurin caught 82 receptions on 117 targets for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, earning his second Pro Bowl selection.
The Commanders’ offense has not missed a beat with Mariota under center so far during Sunday’s matchup against the Raiders, putting up 34 points through the first three quarters on the way to a 41-24 victory. McLaurin caught three passes for 74 yards, leading the team in receiving.
However, the Commanders revealed that he left the game early. The team wrote on X, “WR Terry McLaurin (quad) is questionable to return.” McLaurin did not return in the fourth quarter.

This is a disappointing development for Washington, as their offense is already playing shorthanded. McLaurin appeared in all 17 games last year and has been extremely durable throughout his entire seven-year career. He has not missed a game in over four seasons and has been with Washington through many changes at the quarterback position, continuing to produce. Future updates on his status and the severity of his quad injury will be monitored as they surface.
