Commanders' biggest positive from emphatic Week 3 win is painfully obvious

It's not about how you get knocked down in the NFL, it's about how you get up. That was the Washington Commanders' primary objective after suffering a demoralizing defeat to the Green Bay Packers on primetime.

Dan Quinn typifies this fighting spirit. One only has to look at how the head coach got up and went straight back to business after a brutal collision with quarterback Marcus Mariota to see that. And everyone feeds off this relentless desire and energy.

The Commanders were dealing with some significant injury concerns heading into the contest. They'd lost running back Austin Ekeler and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. for the season. Superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels was also missing versus the Las Vegas Raiders with a sprained knee. Their backs were firmly against the wall as doubts about the team's sustainability began cropping up in the media.

Commanders' resolve in the face of adversity was evident once again in Week 3

This is when the Commanders are at their best. They thrived last season when everyone wrote them off. Nobody expected them to make the playoffs, let alone reach the NFC Championship game. But with the right culture and mentality firmly installed, anything is possible.

The next men up performed as expected. Washington overwhelmed the Raiders and never looked in danger of losing the contest. They were comfortable and played with supreme conviction throughout. And they never took their foot off the gas until the final whistle.

Washington might not win every game this season. But make no mistake, they are never going to go down without a fight.

Quinn sets the example for others to follow. Everyone believes. Everyone is willing to give their absolute all to the cause. The coach preached brotherhood from the moment he got into the building. The Commanders needed all that and more to overcome some potentially serious stumbling blocks with minimal fuss.

This is the standard. The Commanders would have fallen by the wayside with even the slightest setback during Ron Rivera's four years at the helm. Things are different now, and Washington has Quinn to thank.

Things won't be easy. The Commanders' injury problems continued, with veteran safety Will Harris likely done for the season with a fractured fibula. Other minor issues will be monitored closely, but the unrivaled resolve within this group is only getting stronger.

It's a never-say-die mindset. The more issues they have to face, the better Washington performs. And that's something that should ensure they won't be too far away when the postseason arrives.

That was the most significant positive to take from yet another emphatic victory at Northwest Stadium.
