To newer fans of the NFL, there's something that just feels off about the Dallas Cowboys being 'America's Team'.
They haven't won a Super Bowl in 30 years. They have the longest drought of reaching a conference championship game in the NFC. They are perpetually mediocre, propped up by brand value and a megalomaniac owner who demands they be shoved in the faces of the other 31 teams' fans all year long.
Needless to say, America needs a new favorite team. And if you ask majority owner Josh Harris' wife Marjorie, it should be the Washington Commanders.
Harris gave the soundbite while discussing the decision to award Washington hosting rights for the 2027 NFL Draft. This is just one of several groundbreaking achievements this ownership group has secured off the field.
Move over Cowboys fans!

On it, the Commanders are the cool kids of the NFL. Following a season in which sensational rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led Washington to the NFC Championship game, the team will play eight games in 2025 either in prime time or otherwise standalone windows.
Daniels, the reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, is a major reason for this. He combines his dynamic style of play with a harnessed poise beyond his years, all while possessing an endearing persona that maintains the tricky balance between confidence and humility.
With his trustworthy receiving weapon in second-team All-Pro Terry McLaurin now joined by Pro Bowler Deebo Samuel Sr., Washington could have one of the most electric offenses in the NFL next season. And the league is placing a tremendous amount of faith in them to take the next step.
It's just as easy to root for the Commanders as an organization as it is to root for the players on the field. Dan Quinn, he of '28-3' infamy during his time with the Atlanta Falcons, redeemed his reputation as a quality head coach and one of the game's elite motivators. This saw Washington's long-suffering fanbase become reawakened by the change in ownership and subsequent culture shift.
The Commanders remain in the infancy stage of their national relevancy resurgence. They have yet to win or appear in a Super Bowl during this new era. They still must prove to the NFL world that they're more than a one-year wonder. For that reason, it might be a bit premature to dub them with such a prestigious moniker.
Then again, that could also be exactly why it fits so perfectly.
When you start winning too much, your approval rating with the masses will suffer. No one outside of Kansas City likes the Chiefs. No one outside of Philadelphia likes the Eagles. America wants to get behind a team that's new and fresh — one that can produce cinematic moments anytime it takes the field.
Right now, that team is the Commanders.
