Washington Commanders fans felt aggrieved when the Dallas Cowboys were chosen to take on the Philadelphia Eagles to kick off the 2025 season. However, they were handed a consolation prize with a stand-alone showdown versus the one team that prevented them from reaching the Super Bowl in 2024.

Although the schedule won't be released in full until Wednesday, May 14, networks and streaming services are slowly releasing information about the games they'll be putting into the limelight as part of their coverage. The Commanders take center stage on FOX over the festive period, with the Eagles coming to town for what promises to be a pivotal encounter with huge ramifications attached.

Commanders set for Eagles showdown in FOX's festive double-header

FOX will have a special double-header on Saturday, December 20. The Commanders are hosting the Eagles at Northwest Stadium, with the Green Bay Packers locking horns with the Chicago Bears to complete the slate.

The Commanders and Eagles were tied closely last season. The bitter NFC East adversaries both won one game apiece versus each other during the regular season. They also squared off in the NFC Championship game after Washington's fairytale run to the final four.

This was a step too far for Dan Quinn's squad, but the final scoreline flattered the Eagles. They went on to lift the Super Bowl after crushing the Kansas City Chiefs, which is something Washington will be aiming for this time around.

There is no love lost between the two. Both are expected to challenge again in 2025. Both fancy their chances of reaching the promised land. Looking at how late in the season this game is, it might just be a division title decider when it's all said and done.

There's a long way to go and a lot of football left until that's confirmed. Playing on the Saturday also opens the window for Washington to be on the Christmas Day schedule, which signifies just how far this exciting project has come in such a short space of time.

This will be a strong end-of-season measuring stick for the Commanders. Striking a blow to the Eagles this late in the campaign is only going to help their cause.

And the entire NFL audience will be watching intently.
