I was in Ashburn today for another Washington Commanders' padded training camp practice, and came away really impressed with the team's progress, but also left with two new concerns.
Today was another productive practice for the team, but something happened today that has team has been able to avoid up to this point, and that's injuries. One received a positive update pretty quickly, while the other is worth monitoring this week.
Deebo Samuel has been the best player at training camp, in my opinion, and he's been stacking good days and building his connection with QB Jayden Daniels. Today was another big day for Samuel with impressive catches and an excellent kick return in the team drill that would've been huge. Then, towards the end of practice, Samuel injured his hand, and it looked painful at first.
Samuel went on a slant in the second-to-last play of practice and hit his hand somewhere in traffic when the ball came across the middle of the field. He immediately came off the field, grabbing his hand, and the trainers took a look at it. We left practice, not sure what exactly happened, but then we got an update rather quickly.
Samuel appeared on live streams for Bleacher Report and the NFL Network, and his hands looked just fine while holding the mic and talking to the crews.
Injury update: #Commanders WR Deebo Samuel is good to go. It was reported that he left the practice field today with a left hand injury.

Reports have come out that he only jammed his finger, and it's nothing serious worth worrying about. Honestly can't imagine what a jammed finger from a Daniels throw even feels like, but he will be fine and has plenty of time to loosen it up.
The more concerning of the two injuries had to be projected starting left guard Brandon Coleman, who limped off the field in the middle of practice and never returned. I'm not sure exactly what happened on the play in team drills, but Coleman limped off gingerly and was replaced by Andrew Wylie at guard.
There's still a little over a month until the season starts, and hopefully, this is something minor he can come back from quickly. If Coleman does end up missing some time, this is where you will see the importance of improving the offensive line this offseason. Wylie can step in at left guard like he did at practice, or Nick Allegretti, who was the starter last year, can fill back in until Coleman comes back.
The team has a day off from practice on Sunday, so Monday is the earliest we will hear the status on Coleman and exactly what happened to Samuel's hand.
