Marshon Lattimore's early efforts with the Washington Commanders were blighted by a troublesome hamstring injury. Head coach Dan Quinn provided an update on the complication, and the news was extremely positive.
Big things were expected of Lattimore following his high-profile trade from the New Orleans Saints before the 2024 deadline. The Commanders thought this was the shutdown coverage presence that could provide some defensive assurance that was lacking previously. Aside from a few flashes, things didn't go according to plan.
Lattimore came into the Commanders with a hamstring issue that restricted him to just two regular-season games. He never looked 100 percent when on the field, struggling to counteract the threat posed by outstanding wideouts such as A.J. Brown and Mike Evans. Washington even had to take him off the opposition's most prolific receiving threat during the playoffs, which was a damning indictment of his performance levels.
Speculation was rife this offseason about Lattimore's future. Adam Peters wasn't going to give up on this lofty investment, not when there was a massive mitigating circumstance attached.
Peters believes there is more to come from Lattimore with an offseason to fully heal. Quinn gave the media in attendance on Day 1 of Washington's mandatory minicamp a promising prognosis, outlining there would be no restrictions on his practice intensity after a prolonged recovery period.

This is the best possible news. Lattimore is fully healed and ready to silence his doubters. The Commanders will always err on the side of caution with the player, but getting him up to full speed should be relatively straightforward from here on out.
Lattimore drew the ire of some fans by skipping voluntary OTAs. He's in the building now, and the Commanders should get the best version of the four-time Pro Bowler moving forward.
Anything less would be a complete catastrophe for the Commanders and Lattimore. It's a worst-case scenario with grave implications attached. But for now, all signs are pointing up for a player with a huge point to prove in 2025.
