For rookies coming into the NFL system, sometimes they have a veteran who takes them under their wing and not only shows them the ropes, but also helps improve their craft, and for Washington Commanders' left tackle Josh Conerly Jr., he's got one of the best.
General manager Adam Peters traded for five-time Pro Bowl tackle Laremy Tunsil to be Jayden Daniels' blindside blocker, and it is clear Conerly Jr. has been taking advantage of the veteran's smarts.
The 31-year-old is still a quality tackle, despite challenges last season, and for Conerly Jr., he can't speak highly enough of what Laremy has done for him this offseason.
"I mean, it's truly a blessing that I have someone like that take me underneath their wing and somebody I have the opportunity to learn from every single day," Conerly Jr. said. "I mean it's been nothing but a blessing. That's all I can really say about it for real."
With Tunsil on the final go-around in his NFL career, Conerly Jr., we think, will be slated to take over either next year or in the future, and getting as much information from Tunsil as he can will only improve his game.
While Conerly Jr. will likely be a backup for most of the season, he will get his time in the sun, and it will be there that he can put into practice the things learned in training camp.
The first-round pick comes to Washington with high hopes, and when you can refine your skills and learn from someone like Tunsil, you are in a great spot moving forward.
And that is exactly where Conerly Jr. is.
