Commanders kicker Matt Gay ruled out for MNF

Washington Commanders kicker Matt Gay has been downgraded to out for Monday nights contest against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The news comes just four hours before kickoff, and Washington has made the move to sign kicker Matthew Wright to its practive squad, and activate him to its active roster for tonights game.

Gay has been the Commanders primary placekicker thie season, and in seven games he has made 10-of-14 field goal attempts, while knocking in all 18 of his attempted extra points to record 48 points on the season.

Wright is a sixth year kicker who graduated from the University of Central Florida. Over his half decade long career, Wright has spent time with seven different teams including the Commanders. In 2024, he spent time with the San Fransisco 49ers, Kansas City Cheifs and the Tennessee Titans.

He has attempted and made a single field goal in 2025 - a 46-yarder while playing for the Titans. His best proffesional season came in his sophomore year in 2021, when he played 14 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars, making 21-of-24 field goal attempts (87.5%) recorded a career-high 76 points.
