Frankie Luvu has quietly been one of the NFL’s most unique defenders over the past few seasons, and in 2024, Luvu finally received the national recognition that his play deserves.
After joining the Washington Commanders and getting to play under Dan Quinn, Luvu has earned his first nod on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list, landing at No. 70.

Luvu was the perfect fit for Quinn’s defensive scheme, as he serves to be a disruptive force in all phases of the game. He played in all 17 games for the team, racking up 99 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, eight sacks, seven passes defended and a forced fumble. Luvu in 2024, had a career high in sacks and QB hits.
His unique versatility to be the perfect blitzing linebacker made him one of the hardest players to scheme for. And specifically to Washington, his style of play is much more important due to the team not having many dynamic pass rushers.
According to NFL Pro Insight, “Frankie Luvu was the only player to record over 200 snaps rushing the passer (213), in run defense (450) and in coverage (342) in 2024.”
That unique level of versatility is almost unheard of in the league, and it speaks to the overall value Luvu brings.
Luvu entered the NFL as an undrafted player out of Washington State. Now entering into his eighth year in the league, Luvu has risen up the ranks to become one of the NFL’s premier linebackers. Since Day 1 he has played with a chip on his shoulder, and he still plays with that same intensity and determination. Finally, he is getting the widespread recognition that he deserves.
Earning a nod in the Top 100 list is a sign that Luvu has established himself as a top talent. With another year in Quinn’s system, Luvu will have the chance to elevate his game even more. If he can do so, there may be a higher ranking in his future.
