The Washington Commanders head into halftime against the New Orleans Saints with a 14-0 lead.
Washington's defense was absolutely dominant in the first half, allowing just 68 total yards. Sophomore quarterback Jake Haener, who is making his first career start, finished the first half with just 49 passing yards and an interception.
All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara had just eight rushing yards on four carries. Kamara also caught all but one of Haener's completions.
Washington's defense also got to Haener for three sacks in the half. Safety Jeremy Chinn had a team-leading three combined tackles, two tackles-for-loss and a sack.
Making his Commanders debut against his former team, cornerback Marshon Lattimore did not record a stat in the first half. Washington is likely trying to ease him onto the field as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
On offense, rookie star Jayden Daniels was very efficient, going 17-for-19 for 141 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and no interceptions. He also picked up 20 rushing yards on six attempts.
Receiver Terry McLaurin brought in both of Daniels' touchdown passes, finishing the half with 35 yards on five catches.
The Commanders' offense did suffer a substantial loss going into halftime, as tight end Zach Ertz went to the locker room. Ertz has already been ruled a concussion, so Washington will go the rest of the game without their starting tight end.
In the second half, the Commanders' offense will likely look to run the ball heavily and keep their strong lead. If Washington can get the win, they'll stay right in the middle of the race for an NFC playoff spot with just three games remaining.
