Commanders owner Dan Snyder declines to testify at congressional hearing

Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder is declining to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee on June 22 despite being under investigation for almost a year for promoting a toxic workplace culture.

According to ESPN, Snyder's attorney informed the committee via letter that he has a "longstanding Commanders-related business conflict and is out of the country on the first and only date the Committee has proposed for the hearing."

The letter also says that Snyder is willing to testify, but the committee refused to change the date.

Attorneys for the defense, Lisa Banks and Debra Katz, said in their own letter that they are "disappointed but not surprised" Snyder is declining to testify and expect him to be subpoenaed next.

Snyder and the Commanders have been under investigation since last October for toxic workplace practices. Snyder himself has also been under investigation for sexual harassment allegations levied against him by former employees, as well as for allegations of financial improprieties. He stepped away from daily activities involving the team early in the investigation, and rumors have swirled that other NFL owners want to vote him out of the league.
