Commanders Pro Bowl DE Chase Young still has no timetable for return from ACL injury

Back in late April, Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera insisted that star defensive end Chase Young was "doing real well" in his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered on Nov. 14. However, Rivera added at that time the Commanders would not "put a time limit on anybody’s injuries" regarding Young's potential availability for Week 1 this coming September.

As noted by Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, the 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year spoke with reporters on Wednesday and seemed optimistic about where he's at weeks before the start of summer.

"Ain't nothing bringing me down," Young said during his comments. "I feel good. I feel good to be back, getting around the guys, watching them run around, trying to give them all the energy I can give them."

Washington fans hoping to hear some timetable for Young's potential full return to work were left disappointed, but the 23-year-old suggested he's on track as it pertains to where the Commanders want him to be on June 1.

"I'm running," Young explained. "I've squatted some substantial amount of weight -- I ain't gonna put no numbers out there. But every day is going as planned. I'm happy where I'm at. And I'm confident on everything I'm doing going forward."

One worry with Young is that he tallied 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four quarterback hits in fewer than nine full games last fall before the injury. He may need all the live reps he can get as soon as possible if he is to reclaim his best form from the 2020 season that he finished with 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a touchdown.
