Commanders receive brutal Laremy Tunsil injury news

The most important thing for NFL teams during training camp and the preseason is that their most important starters, and especially veteran starters, get through without any major injuries. It does not always go according to plan. The Washington Commanders found that out on Saturday with a brutal injury for starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil that could significantly impact their season.

According to a report from Mike Garafolo and Steve Wyche on Saturday night, Tunsil is believed to have torn a triceps during a 1-on-1 drill and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season.

Tunsil is in his second year with the Commanders and just signed a $30 million per year contract extension.

He is not only counted on to protect the blindside of third-year quarterback Jayden Daniels, but he is one of the best offensive tackles in the entire NFL and the cornerstone of Washington's offensive line. He has earned Pro Bowl honors five times in his 10-year NFL career, including most recently during the 2024 season when he was still a member of the Houston Texans.

Veteran Andrew Wylie figures to be the next man up on Washington's depth chart and is going to have major shoes to fill at one of the most important positions on the offense.

Wylie has eight years of experience in the NFL and has started 93 games in his career for the Kansas City Chiefs and Commanders, but almost all of that playing time has come at right tackle. He has only played a handful of snaps on the left side, and that can be a massive adjustment for most players to try to make that switch.
