Commanders Receive Concerning Terry McLaurin Update

The Washington Commanders made a shocking run to the NFC Championship Game last season. They weren't expected to get that far, but Jayden Daniels and company completely blew past all expectations.

Heading into the 2025 NFL season, the Commanders are going to be a team to watch. Will they be able to take the next step or is some regression on the way?

One situation to monitor closely entering the year will be the status of star wide receiver Terry McLaurin. He would like a new contract and so far Washington has not worked out a new deal with him.

According to a report from Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz, McLaurin is frustrated with the team over the lack of progression on a new long-term contract.

"Sources: #Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin has made it clear to the team that he's frustrated with the lack of progress on a long-term deal. As I previously reported, McLaurin unexpectedly left voluntary workouts after initially attending, and it remains to be seen whether he'll report for mandatory minicamp," Schultz wrote on X.

"McLaurin is entering the final year of his contract. Talks have been minimal."

McLaurin has been one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL for years. Getting him locked up long-term should be a major priority for the Commanders.

Last season in 17 games, the 29-year-old wide receiver caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. His presence made life much easier on Daniels as a rookie.

Entering this season, Washington has more wide receiver talent on its roster. Deebo Samuel was acquired in an offseason trade with the San Francisco 49ers.

Outside of McLaurin and Samuel, the Commanders have Noah Brown, Michael Gallup, and Jaylin Lane as their top wide receivers. It's a good group, but McLaurin is clearly still the No. 1 player in the room.

It will be interesting to see if the two sides can work out a new deal before the 2025 season gets underway. McLaurin could hold out in an attempt to force a new contract.

Washington will need to get this situation figured out as soon as possible.
