The Washington Commanders had a relatively clean bill of health heading into their Week 2 primetime clash with the Green Bay Packers. That was pleasing, especially considering what was at stake for both clubs during a mouth-watering matchup early in the campaign.
It doesn't take long for that to change. That proved to be the case when the Commanders were given a scare on the health front at the worst possible time.
The Commanders were dealt a blow when Trey Amos was forced off the field. The rookie cornerback was involved in a physical collision with Packers quarterback Jordan Love, and he came off a lot worse. The Ole Miss product was initially listed as questionable with a shoulder issue.
This lost some much-needed momentum in the cornerback room. Amos is an integral part of the team's plans, and he started the game well with a superb pass breakup in the end zone. Head coach Dan Quinn was forced to roll with the punches, and general manager Adam Peters will also be awaiting further developments before deciding if more aggressive moves are needed.
Amos is a tough guy. He wouldn't have come off the field if he didn't think it was absolutely necessary. It was a gut punch for the Commanders in such a hostile environment, but they've overcome adversity on countless occasions under Quinn's guidance. Fans were confident that the same would happen again.
It's a wait-and-see scenario. The Commanders have a mini-bye week upcoming before attention turns to their Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. That provides a little extra time for Amos to get right, but there is just no telling for sure until the official prognosis is revealed.
Hopefully, the news will be positive. Because if the Commanders want to go deep into the postseason, they need Amos firing on all cylinders.
