The Washington Commanders achieved a comfortable victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. However, there could be yet another injury concern for fans to monitor in the coming days.
And once again, it involves a franchise cornerstone.
Terry McLaurin looked a little more like his old self at Northwest Stadium. It's been a slow start to the campaign from the wide receiver, which wasn't surprising when one considers he missed so much time over the summer during his contract standoff with general manager Adam Peters. His three catches from four targets for 74 receiving yards represented a step in the right direction, but the second-team All-Pro left the game late with a quad injury and was questionable to return.
The Commanders already had the result locked up by this point, so there was no need to put McLaurin in harm's way even if he wanted to go back in. Now, it'll be an anxious wait involving further tests before fans find out whether this is something that jeopardizes his involvement next weekend against the Atlanta Falcons.
The last thing Washington needs is McLaurin out of action. They are already without several established stars, two of whom are out for the entire campaign. Superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels missed Week 3 with a sprained knee. If the team's most prolific pass-catcher is also sidelined, that would be nothing short of disastrous.
It's a wait-and-see scenario. McLaurin doesn't miss games. He's been highly durable throughout his career, and fans shouldn't expect that to change. But until something gets confirmed one way or another, there will be a little doubt in their minds.
The Commanders are dealing with more injury turmoil than most right now. Head coach Dan Quinn even needed stitches after an in-game collision with veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota. That was a microcosm of the bad fortune on the health front Washington is trying to navigate over the opening weeks of the campaign, so everyone associated with the franchise will be hoping for good news where McLaurin is concerned.
Anything less comes with grave consequences attached.
