Commanders Sign Former 1,000-Yard WR After Terry McLaurin Update

The Washington Commanders’ 2025 season has been rocky through the opening four weeks, with injuries continuing to derail momentum. Starting quarterback Jayden Daniels has missed the last two games with a knee issue, though he returned to limited practice last week and is pushing to be available in Week 5.

The bigger concern, however, remains Terry McLaurin, who has not played since sustaining a quadriceps injury in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Without their top wideout, Washington’s passing game has lacked its usual rhythm, forcing head coach Dan Quinn to search for additional depth in the receiving corps.

McLaurin exited the Raiders game late in the third quarter after pulling up on a deep reception, finishing with three catches for 74 yards before being ruled out. The injury appeared serious, and he has since been treated on a week-to-week basis. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported last week that McLaurin was still unable to run. However, Quinn gave an update on Monday, noting that the veteran receiver is “trending in the right” direction but offered no return date.

“I would say we're all trending in the right space on there,” Quinn said of McLaurin. “We will have a better update on Wednesday in terms of practice planning and that, but arrows are heading up for a number of the guys” (via JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington)

Amid this development, Washington signed WR Robbie Chosen (formerly Robbie Anderson) to the practice squad (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter)

A nine-year veteran, Chosen is best known for his breakout year with the Carolina Panthers in 2020, when he caught 95 passes for 1,096 yards. He last saw NFL action with the Miami Dolphins in 2024, recording one reception for five yards.

His addition brings veteran experience to a thin receiving group and offers Daniels another option should McLaurin remain sidelined.

The Commanders, coming off a defeat to the Atlanta Falcons, return home to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5. If healthy, Daniels is expected to reclaim the starting role, while McLaurin’s status remains uncertain.
