The Washington Commanders have their third-string quarterback for the 2025 season.

Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota are the top two quarterbacks on the depth chart and Josh Johnson will serve as the third-string quarterback after signing a one-year deal with the Commanders on Friday.

Johnson has been all over the league during his career and was most recently with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2024 season. He played in six games, completing two passes for 17 yards.

This will be his second stint with the Commanders after he was with them in 2018. He has played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Commanders, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Ravens during his career.

His best individual season came in 2009 as a rookie when he compiled 685 yards through the air and four touchdown passes. He has appeared in 45 games and has thrown for 2,297 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

The Commanders are coming off an outstanding 2024 season, getting within one win of Super Bowl LIX. They got to their first NFC Championship Game since the 1991 season before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles went on to win Super Bowl LIX over the Kansas City Chiefs but the Commanders showed that they will be a major Super Bowl threat for the next several seasons.

They have a stud in Daniels, who finished his rookie season with 3,568 yards through the air, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. They now have their quarterback depth squared away for next season and can focus on other needs heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.
