Philadelphia Eagles fans are very much aware of how much of a challenge the Washington Commanders are going to be in the NFC East over the next few years.

Last year, the Commanders drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels, and it was all they needed to start competing with the Eagles in the division. The two teams split the season series before the Eagles broke the tie in the NFC Championship game with a 55-23 rout by Philadelphia to make the Super Bowl.

It appears that this year will be more of the same, as the Eagles and Commanders are expected to each compete for a division title and the conference title again. One issue the Commanders are facing, though, could lead to disaster for them and good news for Philadelphia.

Terry McLaurin's contract issues is a big win for the Eagles

This offseason, Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin has expressed to the team his displeasure with the current contract he is playing under. It resulted in McLaurin skipping out on offseason workouts as he wants a new deal.

It appears that it is not getting better as the Commanders try to figure out how to navigate through the situation. Sports Illustrated NFL reporter Albert Breer shed some light on the situation and what the number needs to be for McLaurin to be satisfied.

"I don't think it's in a great place right now," Breer said onĀ 106.7 The Fan via CBS Sports. "If you're Terry McLaurin, you look at it and you're saying don't even come to me with anything that doesn't start with a three [30] per year. I think it's fair for him to ask for something in that range just based on where the market has gone. I think they will eventually get something done."

McLaurin has been a problem for the Eagles in the early part of his career, as he has played against Philadelphia 12 times in his career during the regular season. He is averaging around five catches for 76 yards and has caught five touchdowns against the Eagles. Last year, the Eagles did a better job shutting him down as he had six catches for 70 yards and a touchdown in two regular-season matchups.

If McLaurin doesn't come back to Washington, what an advantage that will be for the Eagles. With Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean emerging as two of the best young cornerbacks in the NFL, it will make their lives easier. Washington is dependent on McLaurin to be their number one receiver, as he has been consistently the team's leader on the stat line.

While the situation doesn't look great now, Washington will come up with a solution to make their star receiver happy and give Daniels his favorite target back. Philadelphia will be prepared regardless, with a young secondary ready to make Daniels and McLaurin's lives miserable again in 2025.
