Though they were steamrolled by the eventual Super Bowl champs in the NFC Championship Game, oddsmakers are convinced the Washington Commanders are not a one-year wonder.
The Commanders haven't been to a Super Bowl since winning XXVI in 1991 - 34 long years ago - but their odds have skyrocketed from a year ago after their surprising season.
After last year's Super Bowl LVIII, Washington was given the 29th-best odds of playing in last weekend's LIX. At +15000, they were a longshot ahead of only the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots. While none of those teams won more than five games, the Commanders shocked the league.
Led by new head coach Dan Quinn and star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, they went 12-5 and then won two road playoff games - including an upset of the NFC's No. 1 seed Detroit Lions - before losing, 55-23, in the conference title game to the Philadelphia Eagles
That performance - and the promise of Daniels - has moved Washington from 29th a year to ago to 7th-best today.
Even before the green and white confetti stopped raining down inside the Superdome in New Orleans after the Eagles' dominating 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, oddsmakers urged NFL fans and teams to turn the page on this season to next season.
At the BetMGM Sportsbook, odds are already posted for the winner of Super Bowl LX, to be played Feb. 8, 2026 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Not surprisingly, the Eagles (+625) and Chiefs (+650) are the two favorites to make it back to the championship game, followed by the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens at +675. The drop-off to the next tier of contenders includes the Detroit Lions (+1100), San Francisco 49ers (+1400) and Commanders (+1700).
In the NFC East, the Cowboys (20th) and Giants (31st) are projected well behind the favorites.
But a year ago the Eagles were only given the 5th-best odds, so in the NFL you never know. Right, Commanders fans?
