Commanders TE Logan Thomas supporting WR Terry McLaurin: 'Do your thing'

Those associated with the Washington Commanders continue to sound unconcerned regarding the status of star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who remained away from the team’s mandatory minicamp and is looking to put pen to paper on a new contract before he potentially plays on the final year of his rookie deal.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera indicated on multiple occasions this week that discussions between the two parties were going well, were "headed in the right direction" and were "never contentious." Rivera also somewhat defiantly declared on Wednesday that "we're not trading Terry."

Tight end Logan Thomas stopped short of guaranteeing the Commanders will lock McLaurin down via a long-term extension this summer, but Thomas made it clear when speaking with reporters that he supports his teammate's actions.

"Terry’s a great dude, a great player, a great kid, a great person — a person I care about a lot," Thomas explained, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "Do your thing, Terry. You get what you deserve. The time will come, whether it’s this year, next year, or whenever the time comes, he’ll get what he deserves."

McLaurin posted team highs last season with 77 catches, 130 targets, 1,053 receiving yards and five touchdown grabs, and he's on track to work alongside new quarterback Carson Wentz as soon as he and the Commanders come to an agreement.
