Commanders tied to massive summer distraction that could wreck preparations

The Washington Commanders went from bottom-feeding toxicity to national limelight-hogging success almost overnight. This led one NFL analyst to suggest that a prestigious accolade could befall head coach Dan Quinn's squad in the not-too-distant future.

A sensational surge to the NFC Championship game brought on-field miracles that re-energized the entire fanbase. Josh Harris's ownership group wasted no time in building back the Commanders' reputation behind the scenes, with a new venue at the RFK Stadium site and the 2027 NFL Draft coming to D.C. representing just two examples of this newfound positivity.

The best part for fans? This ambitious project is still in its infancy.

Great things are anticipated moving forward as the Commanders look to make their fleeting return to the NFL top table a permanent arrangement. The fact that they have eight standalone contests in 2025 indicates that those in the league office think so, too.

Commanders must avoid Hard Knocks complications if chosen by HBO

Mike Kadlick from Sports Illustrated thought the NFL could continue riding the coattails of this fairytale Commanders renaissance later this summer. The analyst highlighted Washington's potential to be on this offseason's HBO Hard Knocks docuseries. He believes they deserve this recognition, and there are plenty of fascinating storylines attached for fans to enjoy.

Jayden Daniels ran away with the 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year award last season thanks to a 12-5 record and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game, and now has everyone in the D.C. area fired up for what's to come with the Commanders. Add in trades for Deebo Samuel, Laremy Tunsil, and owner Josh Harris leading the charge on a new stadium being built at the old RFK site, and there's a clear upward trajectory surrounding a franchise once marred by Dan Snyder. They deserve to be at the NFL's center stage.Matt Kadlick

Hard Knocks can sometimes be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's an honor to improve the NFL's brand. However, having invasive cameras constantly around during preparations for the upcoming campaign can become a massive distraction.

The Commanders have enough experienced professionals to ensure they navigate Hard Knocks with minimal fuss if they're selected. It might even inspire one or two further down the pecking order to better-than-expected production if they take center stage.

Quinn will roll with the punches. If the Commanders are chosen, he'll adjust his plan accordingly. If not, they can go about their business without the spotlight glaring en route to similar good fortunes in 2025.

But looking at the criteria and overall momentum building around this historic franchise, it would be surprising if the Commanders weren't high on the shortlist.
