Commanders Trade Rumors: 'Fresh Start' for TE Thomas?

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas is having a rough camp, spending most of it on the sidelines with a calf strain.

While the team enjoys having the 32-year-old veteran around, questions are surrounding how much longer he could be with the Commanders.

"Logan Thomas' longstanding tenure with the Washington Commanders has been marred by health issues and poor production," Bleacher Report writes. "Although he's shown some elite potential on plenty of occasions, he's never been able to harness that talent with any consistency. A fresh start for both sides may make the most sense here."

Thomas caught 72 passes for 670 yards and six touchdowns in 2020, his first season in Washington. However, since then, he's struggled to stay on the field. A calf strain cost him three games in 2022, which followed up a 2021 season where he was limited to just six games because of a hamstring strain and an eventual torn ACL in his left knee.

The Commanders have other options at tight end, specifically 2022 fifth-round pick Cole Turner, who also struggled with injuries last season. However, he's turned it around and has been a highlight in camp so far.

Perhaps the Commanders could try to see what they could get for Thomas on the open market, but it wouldn't be too much ... possibly a sixth or seventh-round pick.

If the price is that low, it might be worth having Thomas around for his leadership, even if he won't be producing as much as he used to on the field.
