New details have emerged regarding the severity of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury.

Prescott is dealing with a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, according to Jane Slater of NFL Network. The injury means part of Prescott’s hamstring tendon has been torn off the bone, and the injury typically keeps players out for more than four weeks. Prescott is seeking second opinions.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had said Prescott was likely to land on injured reserve. The team has yet to make that move as Prescott continues to seek other medical opinions.

Prescott suffered the injury on Sunday against Atlanta, but it was not initially clear that the hamstring was the primary issue. Cooper Rush is expected to start for the Cowboys as long as Prescott remains sidelined.

Prescott has thrown for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions thus far in 2024.
