Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs experienced disappointment in New Orleans earlier this year. They lost 40-22 against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59.
The loss ended the Chiefs’ pursuit of a historic three-peat, but it gave the AFC Champions a chip on their shoulder. Needless to say, heading into the 2025 campaign is a redemption season for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
During an interview with Kay Adams on Up and Adams, Mahomes sent a warning to the rest of the NFL.
We have the talent to be the best team we’ve had. You’ve got to go out there and prove it, and until we prove it, I’m not going to say we’re the best, but if we go out there and win that Super Bowl, then we can say we’re the best one.

Last season, Mahomes posted 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while also running for 307 yards and two more scores.
Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice, Jaylen Watson, and several other key figures missed considerable game time last season. It lowered the Chiefs’ offensive prowess. They won 10 one-score games because the defense held its ground.
Brown, Rice, Xavier Worthy, and JuJu Smith-Schuster had an excellent camp this year. Moreover, new recruit Jalen Royals looks tailor-made for Andy Reid’s scheme. They also retained Kareem Hunt, Isiah Pacheco, and Carson Steele and drafted speedster Brashard Smith.
Mahomes started the Chiefs’ preseason fixture against the Arizona Cardinals last week. He was only in the game for 48 seconds, but threw one pass and one touchdown to Jason Brownlee before handing over the quarterback duty to Gardner Minshew.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs suffered a 17-20 defeat. Bailey Zappe’s two picks contributed to the loss.
Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr., had a run-in with the law. He was arrested by the police ahead of the Super Bowl.
The 29-year-old recounted how the incident affected him and his family.
I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that, like, you can’t keep doing the same things.

The retired New York Mets pitcher was arrested by the police for a DWI and served 10 days in jail. Mahomes Sr. was embarrassed by the entire ordeal.
I called [Patrick] right after… I said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry that it’s taken away from your time and focus.’ … I made a vow that he would never have to deal with anything because of drinking, because of me. I haven’t had a drink since then.
Meanwhile, the 3x Super Bowl winner became a father for the third time with his wife, former soccer player Brittany Mahomes.
The Chiefs may not be the Super Bowl champions, but they still have a target on their back. Every team in the AFC will play its best football while facing the reigning conference champions.
Their first game did not go according to plan, but coach Reid was impressed by rookies Josh Simmons, Ashton Gillotte, and Nohl Williams. Mahomes and co. will wrap up their preseason adventure by facing the Seattle Seahawks and the Chicago Bears.
