Contract talks between Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings have been put on hold for the time being, as the running back is reportedly focusing on being ready for the upcoming season.
Cook is on the last year of his rookie deal and is currently set to make just $1.3 million this season. He's been clear that he feels he deserves a lucrative, long-term deal, as he rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns last year.
Dalvin Cook said last week he never considered not reporting to camp. He has been in close contact with his agent. "Just letting those guys take as much time as they can and get this thing worked out and get a reasonable thing done for me that I’m worth on and off the field." https://t.co/hdx6VsYMxa

But despite his desire to land a bigger deal, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said that Cook never considered skipping out on camp or holding out. When asked about a deal last week, Cook did not sound too concerned about a deal getting done immediately.
"Just letting those guys take as much time as they can and get this thing worked out and get a reasonable thing done for me that I’m worth on and off the field," Cook said.
The issue with Cook getting a deal has less to do with his production and more to do with the position he plays. The running back market has plummeted over the last few seasons, as teams are less willing than ever to take the risk of handing a running back a massive payday. Running backs have attempted to hold out to gain leverage but just ask Melvin Gordon how that ended up working out for him.
But for now, Cook can simply focus on playing the best football of his career while hopefully helping the Vikings reach the playoffs for the second straight season.
