Cooper DeJean Opens Up About Eagles' Brutal Losing Streak

Following their loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles now sit at 2-5, with the playoffs looking out of reach. Cooper DeJean commented on the difficult stretch and the team’s current slump.

“It’s been tough, to be honest,” DeJean said. “With the success that we’ve had the last couple years, it’s been tough to lose games, even lose snaps out there on defense.”

DeJean continued: “Not to look at the past, but we made a lot of plays the last couple years. There’s been plays that we’ve made that we haven’t made this season. You have to find a way to get past that, though, and learn from it. But I’d be lying if I said it’s easy to just move on from those plays. You get beat, you mess up a fit, whatever it is. It’s tough to move on from that. But that’s the mindset you have to have in this league.”

Losing is something DeJean has been largely unfamiliar with since entering the NFL. After being drafted in 2024, DeJean won a Super Bowl as a rookie and reached the playoffs after a double-digit win campaign in year two. In fact, across his entire freshman and sophomore campaigns, DeJean never experienced a three-game losing streak.

However, it has been a different story to start 2026. The Eagles are now on a five-game skid, the first time the franchise has lost five in a row since 2016. Much of the criticism has correctly been on the offense, whether due to the host of injuries, the revolving door along the offensive line, or questionable playcalling. However, the defense may be the more disappointing unit.

On the season, the Eagles allow 371 yards per game, the sixth-highest mark in the NFL, and their performance against the Cowboys may have been their worst yet. Philadelphia surrendered 38 points and 416 total yards while failing to record a single sack, quarterback hit, or tackle for loss. To make matters worse, their takeaway drought continued, leaving them tied for the fewest forced turnovers in the league.

DeJean individually is having a down year, not playing to the All-Pro caliber that he was a season ago. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, DeJean has allowed 4 receiving touchdowns on 40 targets this season after allowing just a single touchdown on 125 targets in the 2024 and 2025 seasons combined.

Given the state of the offense, the defense simply has to perform at a much higher level if Philadelphia hopes to sneak into the postseason. There is personal incentive as well for DeJean, who becomes eligible for a contract extension this offseason. With both team and individual stakes high, the pressure is on for the remainder of the year.
