Cordarrelle Patterson Has Reached An Elite Level
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Versatile player Cordarrelle Patterson had a resurgence with the Atlanta Falcons last season.

Aside from having 618 rushing yards and six touchdowns, he also had 548 receiving yards and five scores.

This year, he is off to a solid start with 302 rushing yards, putting him in third place behind Nick Chubb and Saquon Barkley.

Meanwhile, his recent performance puts him a notch above his contemporaries.

NFL on CBS tweeted, “Cordarrelle Patterson has three 100-yd rushing games since 2021, which is more than these notable RBs: Christian McCaffrey Ezekiel Elliott, Aaron Jones.”

Patterson started the season with 22 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown in their season-opener against the New Orleans Saints.

He followed that up with ten carries for 41 yards versus the Los Angeles Rams.

The first-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft finished with 141 yards and a touchdown in their victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

That performance earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 3.

His efforts also led to Atlanta having the fifth-best rushing offense, averaging 156.7 yards per game.

Patterson’s Role As Receiver Taking A Hit

However, his receiving game is lagging behind after three games, with 28 yards on four receptions.

Those numbers put him in fifth place within the squad, behind Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Olamide Zaccheaus, and KhaDarel Hodge.

Last season, his receiving yards put him second behind Pitts and Russell Gage.

With Patterson struggling to find his role as a pass-catcher, the Falcons rank 26th in passing yards per game at 197.7.

Patterson and the Falcons will face the Cleveland Browns in Week 4.

He will have to prepare for that game because the Browns surrender only an average of 83.7 rushing yards per game.

Therefore, offensive coordinator Dave Ragone should be more creative in involving Patterson when they have possession.
