Could Browns force Giants into Shedeur Sanders decision?

Almost immediately after Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam suggested on Monday he won't force general manager Andrew Berry to make Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders the second overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, some openly wondered if Cleveland will ultimately take either Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter at No. 2.

Browns insider Jason Lloyd of The Athletic touched upon the subject for a piece published Tuesday.

"I heard and saw enough these last few days to believe the Browns genuinely like Travis Hunter," Lloyd said. "Since we’re still three weeks out and they still have an important campus visit to Colorado upcoming this week to visit with both Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, I’m not going to declare they’re drafting Hunter. But if I had to fill out a mock draft today, Hunter would likely be the name I wrote on the line."

Assuming those predicting that the Tennessee Titans will make Miami quarterback Cam Ward the draft's first pick are correct, Cleveland taking Hunter at No. 2 would leave the New York Giants facing an interesting situation regarding the third overall selection. The Giants need a long-term answer at quarterback with 36-year-old Russell Wilson looking to merely extend his career with the organization. However, some analysts think Big Blue would be better off grabbing Carter at No. 3 and then targeting a prospect for the future such as Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart or Alabama's Jalen Milroe later in the draft.

"The Browns certainly appear intrigued by Hunter’s playmaking and ability to play both offense and defense," Lloyd added. "...The Browns could use a playmaking receiver. They could also use help at corner. Hunter fits both needs."

For an article published on March 28, ESPN's Matt Miller mentioned that he heard from a scout that the Giants "loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now." Thus, Lloyd's update could be great news for Giants general manager Joe Schoen, who may not have to trade up to land Sanders on the night of April 24.

With that said, those running the Giants could face a difficult decision if they aren't completely sold on Sanders and both the polarizing prospect and Carter are available at No. 3.
