Could Cowboys make play for four-time Pro Bowler?

After posting the No. 2 passing offense in the NFL in 2021, the Dallas Cowboys once potent passing attack appeared to regress in 2022 after trading receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns.

However, NFL.com’s Adam Rank believes there’s a solution in sight for Dallas, one that involves tempting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into giving up four-time Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans.

“Evans actually would be a great acquisition for a number of teams, including some seriously looking to make a Super Bowl run, like the Dallas Cowboys, who are desperate to venture beyond the Divisional Round for the first time since Bill Clinton's first term,” Rank said. “Turns out Jerry Jones and Co. probably made a mistake dealing Amari Cooper last year. Dak Prescott needs more juice out wide, and I imagine Evans — a Texas native who starred at Texas A&M — wouldn't mind playing for the 'Boys.”

With Tom Brady opting to retire and Kyle Trask set to be Tampa’s starting QB in 2023, Rank believes the Bucs could be enticed to part with the star receiver and stockpile assets for an impending rebuild.

Evan’s big-play ability would be a welcome addition to a Cowboys passing offense that averaged just 11 yards per reception and dropped from 291.9 receiving yards per game to 230.1 yards per game this year.

Of receivers with 70 or more targets in 2022, Evans ranked 10th in yards per reception (14.5) and 11th in yards (1,207).

Evans, who holds 13 Buccaneers records including single-season receiving yards (1,524) and touchdowns (14), also broke his own NFL record for most 1,000-yard seasons to start a career (nine). His nine straight 1,000-yard campaigns also tied Hall of Famer Tim Brown for the second-longest streak in the NFL.
