Could Jets Win 'Classic Sandwich Game'?

The New York Jets came out of their bye week with a theoretical fresh perspective and with hope to end their season positively, beginning with the Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium.

It didn't work out that way, the Jets collapsing in the late going to register a 26-21 loss.

They are now sitting at 3-9, with the playoffs long gone for Jeff Ulbrich's team, despite the theory that the Seahawks might have been coming at the right time.

How's that?

"This is a long trip for Seattle in between two division games against the Cardinals," CBS Sports writes. "The Jets are coming off a bye. Advantage, Jets. They haven't played well at all, but something says they rally here to find a way, as Seattle will be focused on Arizona next week. It's a classic sandwich game."

In other words, CBS suggested that the Seahawks might overlook the lowly Jets. ... while casting an eye toward next week's NFC West showdown vs. Arizona.

Maybe that happened for a moment. Needing something to go their way, the Jets got off to a fine start and a fat lead before folding yet again. So in the end, maybe the Jets are so bad that a team really can "overlook'' them for a quarter or three ... before gobbling up their "classic sandwich.''
