A Monday announcement confirmed that the city of Cleveland and the Haslam Sports Group had reached an agreement that will result in the Cleveland Browns moving to what will be a newly built domed stadium located in a Cleveland suburb in 2029.
Browns insider Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand later explained how that deal could impact Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski if Stefanski's club continues to suffer losses this fall.
"This is good news for the Northeast Ohio region and could be more bad news for Stefanski," Grossi wrote about the agreement. "With this major hurdle crossed, [team owner Jimmy Haslam] now is expected to direct more attention to the Browns."
The Browns signed Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry to contract extensions in June 2024. That said, Grossi revealed that "Stefanski’s seat is hotter than ever" after the club went 4-19 in the coach's last 23 games in charge.
ESPN stats show that the Browns head into Week 7 ranked last in the league with an average of 13.7 points scored per game for the ongoing season. Additionally, Grossi noted that Stefanski's defense "is starting to point fingers at the offense."
Grossi was referencing how Browns star pass-rusher Myles Garrett voiced his frustrations after the team fell to 1-5 on the campaign via a 23-9 loss at the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday. Cleveland failed to record a single touchdown during that matchup.
The Browns next host a Miami Dolphins (1-5) team that seems to be a mess in multiple ways this coming Sunday. That could be a get-right game for Cleveland, as ESPN BET had the Browns as 2.5-point favorites over the Dolphins on Tuesday. That same day, Grossi hinted that Stefanski could be out of a job if his offense fails to impress during what becomes a loss at Huntington Bank Field on Oct. 19:
Is Kevin Stefanski coaching for his job on Sunday? @TonyGrossi thinks another poor offensive performance and a loss would lead Jimmy Haslam to "react"

Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel lost his first two starts after Stefanski benched veteran Joe Flacco, who was later traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. Perhaps a desperate Stefanski could turn to 2025 fifth-round draft pick Shedeur Sanders if Gabriel endures a rough first half against a Dolphins defense that's ranked 30th in the league in yards allowed per game (389.3).
