Could Mike Vrabel jump ship to coach this struggling AFC team?

Few knew what to expect out of the Tennessee Titans before the 2023 season began.

Things went off the rails pretty quickly, and it became evident the organization needs to hit the reset button. Many expect controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk and general manager Ran Carthon to clean house this offseason and for the roster to get a major facelift in the offseason. Depending on who you believe, head coach Mike Vrabel may or may not be coming back in 2024.

According to a report from Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, Vrabel might have his eyes on another head-coaching gig — one where he would replace future Hall of Famer Bill Belichick and reunite with a team he played eight seasons for and won three Super Bowls with: the New England Patriots.

“League sources believe that Vrabel could be looking for a way to force his way out of Tennessee after this season, and the Patriots would be an obvious landing spot — if not the front-runner,” Bedard wrote. “Could the Krafts trade Belichick to the Commanders, Chargers or Panthers, and then secure Vrabel? It’s not out of the realm of possibility.”

According to Bedard, the Titans' hiring of Carthon as Jon Robinson’s successor as GM was forced on Vrabel by Adams Strunk. He acknowledges that Vrabel and Carthon didn’t have much of a relationship prior to him landing in Tennessee and asserts they haven’t exactly developed a close relationship in the 10.5 months since Carthon was hired.

Bedard’s report also seemingly directly contradicts what The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported over Thanksgiving about Vrabel’s future in Tennessee.
