Could Newly Signed Denver Broncos LB Miss Another Season With Injury?
- San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (57) celebrates his interception during the third quarter of their NFC divisional playoff game Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Levi’ Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The San Francisco 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers 24-21.

The Denver Broncos had one of the league’s best defenses last season. They led the league in sacks and featured DPOY Pat Surtain II in the secondary. It was looking like Denver made some great moves to make this formidable unit even stronger, signing two former 49ers in free agency.

The Denver Broncos had addressed what they wanted to do in free agency and looked to have those worries out of their mind coming into the draft. Now it looks like one of those big free-agent signings may not see the field for some time.

Back-to-Back Injuries Potentially Sideline Denver Broncos Player

Many football fans may remember when Dre Greenlaw tore his Achilles while playing for the San Francisco 49ers. Greenlaw was jogging out onto the field to celebrate with teammates during Super Bowl LVIII and went down suddenly holding his calf. Greenlaw would be diagnosed with a torn Achilles and miss the majority of the 2024 season. His only appearances on the field for the 49ers after that would be during weeks 14 and 15. Greenlaw recorded nine tackles and looked to be back to form.

It appears that Greenlaw may have experienced another unfortunate setback in the form of a torn quadriceps that reports say he suffered while working out. Greenlaw signed with the Denver Broncos on a 3-year 31.5 million deal in March.

Final Thoughts

Official reports are likely to come out from the team on Monday. News of the injury was first reported by Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area, to whom the Denver Broncos denied comment. In the time since this report has surfaced in the media, however, updates have shown that this injury may not be as severe as originally reported.

A source tells NBC’s Pro Football Talk that Greenlaw strained his quadriceps and will miss eight weeks. He is expected to return in time for training camp, but especially in cases where you have conflicting reports like this, I would wait for the team to say something officially.
