Whether or not the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals could or should make Notre Dame Fighting Irish star running back Jeremiyah Love the third overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft continues to be a hotly debated topic on sports programs.
For a mock draft posted on Tuesday, NFL writer Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated predicted that the Dallas Cowboys will make a trade with the Cardinals so that Dallas can acquire Ohio State pass-rusher Arvell Reese at selection No. 3. Orr also has the Tennessee Titans trading the draft's fourth pick to an advertised Super Bowl contender.
Specifically, Orr predicted that the Los Angeles Rams will trade overall picks No. 13, 61 and 93 this year, along with a 2027 first-round choice, to the Titans for Nos. 4 and 101 in the 2026 draft. From there, the Rams could grab Love.
"Remember how in the Rams were on Christian McCaffrey? Love is a physical back who lives for outside zone (which is a small part of the Sean McVay offensive lexicon but showcases his patience and brilliance) and can help protect Matthew Stafford on the back end," Orr explained. "While there isn’t necessarily a game-changing receiver that fits into the Rams’ universe, Love, in what could be Stafford’s final season, may conquer all."
As recently as Monday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared that the Rams and Stafford "have made significant progress" regarding a contract extension. That said, Stafford turned 38 years old this past February, and he teased ahead of that birthday that he was at least thinking about retiring before he announced that he would return for at least one more season.
As for the Rams, their history of embracing a "f--- them picks" mentality could lead one to believe they could make an all-in move to draft Love. He is viewed by many as the top overall offensive player in this year's draft class.
"The Titans may like the idea of having a 2027 chip to play with if the new coaching staff decides Cam Ward isn’t the long-term answer," Orr wrote about how Tennessee's current quarterback situation could impact the club's decision to trade away the Love pick.
The 2027 draft is expected to be "loaded" with top-tier quarterbacks, some of whom likely will be rated higher than Ward was ahead of the 2025 player-selection process.
