Could released safety help Cowboys’ defense?

We all understand how bad the Dallas Cowboys defense is, and it seems that every offense that plays them has their best day of the year. Well, with that said, a former Pro Bowl player was just cut yesterday and honestly, it wouldn’t hurt the Cowboys if they took a look.

The Tennessee Titans waived safety Quandre Diggs this week, exposing the 32-year-old veteran to waivers. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Diggs asked for and was granted his release.

Diggs was in his second season with the Titans.

This is actually the second season in a row in which Diggs won’t finish the season for Tennessee. Diggs’ 2024 campaign came to a close after eight starts when he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury. He played one more game for the team this year before being granted his exit.

It Wouldn’t Hurt

Matt Eberflus and his defense couldn’t cover me, so I don’t think adding him would hurt very much.

After the two trades they made before the deadline, this team, with that loss to the Arizona Cardinals, is all but pretty much done with the playoffs with the schedule they have coming up.

Still, Dallas is allowing the second-most yards (397.4) and points (30.8) per game entering Week 10.

They can’t stop a nosebleed, let alone the run or pass. Moreover, only five clubs have more missed tackles than the Cowboys (64).

Under Dan Quinn, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland thrived in aggressive man coverage, where instincts and reaction time led to turnovers and game-changing plays.

Under Eberflus, those same cornerbacks are shackled in soft zone coverage, reacting to space instead of receivers, effectively neutralizing what made them elite.

It’s not just poor execution; it’s poor design for the talent on hand. This defensive identity crisis has infected the entire unit.

Adding another Diggs to the fold would not hurt them anymore than they are already hurting.

They have the worst defense in football, and adding a player just to see if he has anything left to a defense that could probably get more production from a CFL team would not be a bad idea.

Of course, I want this team to be able to win some more games and at least push for the playoffs, but that loss to Arizona all but killed that. It really sucks that all these moves made by Jerry Jones happened about a month late.

I still think they should call on Diggs and see if he is willing to come in for a workout.
