Despite all the buzz around number one overall pick Caleb Williams, the Chicago Bears opened their 2024 NFL season with a regular noon Central kickoff against the Tennessee Titans . Should fans hope for a similar 'soft' opening to the season this year? ESPN's Adam Schefter is aiming higher.

In a segment on the Pat McAfee Show, Schefter guessed that the Bears will open the season against the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears are slated to play the Eagles on the road, meaning they would open their season in Philadelphia. The Bears haven't traveled to Philadelphia since losing 22-14 to the Carson Wentz-led Eagles in 2019. That game, of course, was the long-awaited rematch of the "double doink."

Traveling to play the reigning Super Bowl champs as your first game as a head coach would certainly be a tall order for Bears coach Ben Johnson. However, Johnson is no stranger to the circumstances. During the 2023 season opener as the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, Johnson's team went into Arrowhead Stadium and defeated the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Could he have another opportunity to play spoiler this year? It certainly seems possible.
