Could Vikings make J.J. McCarthy-Kyler Murray decision soon?

The Minnesota Vikings will look to bounce back after a fairly disappointing first season of the J.J. McCarthy era.

Kevin O'Connell's team turned to Kyler Murray on a one-year "prove it" deal after his messy Arizona Cardinals exit, and he looks like the frontrunner for the job.

McCarthy has also gotten some first-team reps and has made it loud and clear that he's not happy with this situation.

According to Mike Jones of The Athletic, this week's three-day minicamp might be his last chance to beat out the former No. 1 pick for the job.

"The two have spent OTAs competing for starting duties, but because of his experience, Murray reportedly has the leg up on the job. It’s quite possible he could lock things up by the end of minicamp," Jones wrote.

While Murray is also coming off a down season of his own and has struggled with injuries, the former No. 1 pick brings much-needed experience and some mobility to the table.

It might be too early to throw the towel with McCarthy, especially given how much the Vikings gave up to get him just a couple of years ago.

Nevertheless, with the GM who drafted him no longer in the building, and their Super Bowl-caliber roster, they may not be able to afford being patient with him.

So, if Murray ends up winning the job as expected, it wouldn't be crazy to see McCarthy on the trade block at some point soon.
