The Dallas Cowboys received a minor injury scare during mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. However, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has eased concerns regarding quarterback Dak Prescott.

Prescott was limited during team drills because of a sore knee. The Cowboys described the decision as precautionary as the veteran quarterback continues preparations for the 2026 season.

The Athletic's Jon Machota shared Schottenheimer's comments on X.

“Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will be limited today because of a minor knee issue,” Machota posted, quoting Schottenheimer, who said, "Nothing we're concerned about.”

ESPN's Todd Archer provided further confirmation from minicamp, saying that the decision was made "because of a sore knee."

The Cowboys are currently holding their three-day mandatory minicamp from June 16-18. It marks the final major offseason program before training camp opens in late July.

While any injury involving Prescott attracts attention, the update appears far less serious than previous issues he has faced. Prescott played all 17 games in 2025 after overcoming injuries that affected his 2024 season, in which he played just 8 games.

The 32-year-old delivered another productive campaign despite Dallas finishing 7-9-1. He threw for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes. His 99.5 passer rating ranked among the league's top marks.

The Cowboys enter 2026 with significant expectations. Dallas spent the offseason reshaping the roster around Prescott and star receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The front office added pass rusher Rashan Gary, signed running back Javonte Williams and retained wide receiver George Pickens. The club also strengthened depth across the offensive line and defense through free agency and the draft.

From a team perspective, limiting Prescott now is the logical move. There is little value in pushing a franchise quarterback through offseason discomfort.

Dallas' Super Bowl hopes depend heavily on Prescott staying healthy. Based on Schottenheimer's comments, there is no indication the knee issue will affect those plans heading into training camp.
