The 6-5-1 Dallas Cowboys face the 7-5 Detroit Lions to start Week 14 on "Thursday Night Football." They're looking to stay on a three-game winning streak, defeating the Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

However, the Cowboys' defense continues to struggle. Through 12 games, they rank 29th in total yards per game allowed (376.2) and 31st in points per game allowed (28.5).

They're hoping to get some reinforcement soon, though. On Sunday, Dallas announced it had designated cornerback Trevon Diggs to return to practice. He hasn't played since Week 6 after suffering an injury at his home on Oct. 16.

He was listed as a limited participant in all three of the Cowboys' Week 14 practices, meaning there was a chance he could play.

Unfortunately, on Wednesday, Cowboys' staff writer Tommy Yarrish revealed that Diggs has officially been ruled out against the Lions.

The cornerback has struggled in his six games this season. Diggs has been targeted 16 times, allowing 11 receptions for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite that, he's still an important piece to the defense. On 105.3 The Fan, head coach Brian Schottenheimer was asked about Diggs returning this season, saying, "At the end of the day, you know, he's an unbelievable talent, and this is something that we're excited about."

With him officially ruled out against Detroit, the Cowboys face a potent Lions offense, which ranks seventh in passing yards per game (238.2). Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET at Ford Field, airing on Amazon Prime Video.

The next game Diggs can return for is the Cowboys' Week 15 matchup at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
