Brian Schottenheimer secured his third win of his coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7, taking down Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders 44-22 and jumping to 3-3-1 on the 2025 NFL season. Now, Schottenheimer will head North as the Cowboys face Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos in Week 8.
Matt Eberflus’ defense turned in one of its best performances of the year against Washington, tallying four sacks, seven tackles for loss, and five pass deflections, capped off by a DaRon Bland 68-yard pick-six. They did it all without cornerback Trevon Diggs, who was unexpectedly ruled out after suffering a concussion at home. Now, Dallas will be without another key defender against Denver.
Donovan Wilson has been an important part of the Cowboys' defense since joining the team in 2019. Along with Wilson's 36 total tackles, two interceptions and three pass deflections this season, the former Texas A&M safety also has the most tackles since he came to Dallas with 263.
But in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, Wilson suffered an elbow injury but played through it the following week against the Commanders. That decision aggravated the injury, keeping him out of practice all week.
And on Friday, two days before the Week 8 matchup, the Cowboys officially ruled Wilson out for the first time this season. Diggs, who remained in concussion protocol all week, has also been ruled out against the Broncos.
"Donovan Wilson out for Sunday," Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins wrote on X. "Cowboys injury report."

The Cowboys will face the Broncos without their two defenders on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Then, Wilson could return as soon as Week 9 when Dallas hosts the Arizona Cardinals on "Monday Night Football."
